Guidelines for volunteers at the Museum Ships on Holmen

The Ships on Holmen Denmark's floating Cold War museum. A museum with experiences that guests cannot experience anywhere else. The museum is run by the Peder Skram Foundation. The Foundation owns the frigate, while Sehested and Sælen are owned by the National Museum. The Foundation and the National Museum have a cooperation agreement that means that the Foundation operates the two ships as museum ships and ensures their maintenance.

The museum does not receive public funding and can therefore only exist with the help of all the committed volunteers.

What can you expect as a volunteer?

Meaningful "work", based on good social relations with other volunteers.
Your efforts are appreciated through your work, and the value you add to Ships on Holmen.
You become part of a community of more than 100 volunteers.
With your personal contribution, you can have a great influence on the museum's further development.
You will have fun as a volunteer, and look forward to getting to "work" again.
We have many different jobs in our established teams. The vast majority of jobs do not require any prior knowledge or experience from the Navy or the Armed Forces.
As a volunteer, you will be assigned to one of our teams in consultation with management, where your personal mentor will be ready to receive you and introduce you.

New volunteers at the Ships on Holmen museum

The museum wants all volunteers working at the museum to have a good understanding of what is reasonably expected of a "volunteer" and that all volunteers know what they can expect from the museum. Therefore, we have compiled some important information here on these pages for you.

The museum uses a fixed procedure when new volunteers are received to ensure that new volunteers are of course received in the best possible way. This includes meeting and welcoming new volunteers by representatives from the museum and the three associations that collaborate with the museum:

Danish Torpedo Boat Association, Danish Submarine Association and Peder Skram's Friends.

New volunteers are invited to a guided tour at an introductory day before the annual opening. As mentioned, a new volunteer who will work as a guide will be assigned a mentor. All volunteers are encouraged to work on all three ships

Being a guide

The museum only exists if we have guests, so you can expect us to do our part to ensure that you have the best experience.
